Prominent Ear Aesthetics
Why Is Prominent Ear Aesthetics Important?
Ear aesthetics are very common among plastic surgery operations. Ear aesthetics are performed in order to make changes in ear size and correct prominent ears. Flattening of the y-shape fold on auricle or inadequate development of auricle require prominent ear aesthetics. Prominent ears among the people are sometimes considered as big ears. However, this is an incorrect evaluation. The reason for the prominent ear is the flat shape of auricle which should normally be curved. In order to correct prominent ears in aesthetic operations, it is entered from the back of ears and cartilaginous parts are rasped. Ears are shaped in a curved form through the back part with the help of special stitches. In some cases, auricle does not occur at all. Only earlobes may be present. These deformations can be corrected by performing ear reconstruction operation. This situation, called as microtia, is corrected by using patient’s own tissue cells. Ear development is generally completed until the ages of 5-6. So, children can undergo prominent ear operation before starting to school. However, the operation is performed under general anesthesia. The mental state of children who are operated at a young age can be adversely affected. Prominent ear operations can also be performed in older ages. In this case, the operation can be performed with local anesthesia. It can be said that a prominent ear operation can be performed at any age. In addition, ear operation can also be performed together with nose aesthetics.
What should be known before prominent ear operations?
Preliminary consultation should be made with a specialist doctor before the operation. Preoperative consultations should be made in detail and important points that may cause problems during the operation should be indicated. No drug should be used prior to operation, because it may cause serious bleeding together with anesthesia which is applied during the operation. If there are any drugs that the patient must use compulsorily, the doctor should be informed. Smoking and excess weight may cause problems for the healing of wounds and formation of blood circulation in tissues. For this reason, excess weight should be lost before the operation. In addition, smoking should be stopped 7 days prior to the operation. Prominent ear operation is completed successfully if these conditions are taken into consideration.
